Dr. Mark Roma,
VMD
Hello! As the owner of the Animal Hospital of North Dover, I would like
to take a moment to introduce myself.
As a lifelong resident of the Jersey Shore, I am delighted to be a member
of such a fine team of veterinary professionals. After graduating as the
salutorian from Wall High School in 1983, I completed an undergraduate degree,
magna cum laude (B.S. in Animal Science) at Cook College, Rutgers University
in 1987. I received a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 1991 from the
University of Pennsylvania.
During my school years,
I was a veterinary technician at the Neptune Animal Hospital before becoming
a volunteer and paid Emergency Medical Technician for six years.
My first staff veterinary position was in a 24 hour emergency hospital in
Columbus, New Jersey. Following that experience, I was an associate at a veterinary
hospital in West Windsor, New Jersey for eleven years. I declined an ownership opportunity when it
arose at that practice, so that someday I would be able to take over
the reins of a progressive, state of the art hospital close to my hometown.
Since 2004, it has been my pleasure to do just that at AHND.
Like many members of my generation, I was first inspired to pursue veterinary
medicine after reading the books of James Herriot. However, no one deserves
more gratitude than my parents. They were a constant source of support and
encouragement - not to mention their inexhaustible patience as they allowed
me to drag any possible critter back to our home, whether it walked, crawled
or swam.
I am looking forward to meeting you and getting to know your pet personally.
If you have any questions or just want to say hi, feel free to call me directly
or stop by the animal hospital anytime! |

Every
day that I work as a veterinarian, I am thankful for the
opportunities that allowed me to pursue this rewarding career. I was very lucky to have parents that instilled in
me a love and respect for animals. I grew up with all sorts of pets like dogs, cats ducks, hamsters,
mice, birds, ferret, and even three pet skunks. We would take in most any unwanted stray that came
along including an orphaned raccoon and a few squirrels and chipmunks. There is not a time I can
remember in which we did not have animals.
These early experiences taught me that all creatures, even the smallest, deserve to be treated well and with kindness.
Today I live with my husband Dru who fortunately shares my passion for animals. We share our lives
with our furry friends Peeps (a rescued stray cat from the streets of New Mexico), Squishy (a stray
cat saved from the shelter), Jasper (a stray cat that is now diabetic), and Cinnamon Spice (an
abandoned hamster). We love them each for their uniqueness and the way in which they enrich our lives.
I look forward to the chance to meet you with your special pet. My Education BS University of Georgia 1989
- DVM University of Georgia 1996.
